President’s Walk
MEET REPORT ON PRESIDENT’S WALK BREDON HILL IN WORCESTERSHIRE
For those who don’t know, Bredon is that isolated hill to the east of the M5 motorway between junctions 7 and 9.
We left the Wychavon Car Park and Picnic Site in Elmley Castle. (Postcode WR10 3HW; Grid Reference 985410) at 10.30. Unfortunately due to an attack of senility the leader had transposed the grid reference on the notice but fortunately at the time of writing I do not know of anyone who went to Shropshire.
We went south around Castle Hill to join the Wychavon Way and thence to Ashton under Hill where we arrived at The Star Inn (after a small detour!) for some excellent real ale. They were also happy to let us eat our sandwiches on the lawn.
After lunch we went west to Conderton and then Overbury and then North through Overbury Park and on to The Belt. West again to Banbury Stone Tower and continued from there East North East back to Elmley Castle. A total of about twelve miles. There were fourteen members and guests of whom half returned by a shorter route from the Star Inn. Overall the weather was good but there were some icy squalls with snow. The views of the Cotwolds, the Malverns and hills in North and East Worcestershire were very good.
